We have, as parents, recently fulfilled a long time promise to our children to allow them pets. I myself was going for a dog. With all three children at school, a dog would be motivation to get out for some air and exercise whatever the weather. Everyone loved the idea of a dog, everyone was willing to take a turn cleaning up dog poo from the yard, and everyone was willing to take a dog on walks, play with it and feed it. Everyone was in agreement, a dog would be perfect! And, everyone was shocked that I was agreeing to a dog.
A few months ago I was ignoring my children who wanted to play with me, in favor of checking my Facebook feed. It dawned on me that what my hundreds of "friends" were eating, drinking and doing had become more important than the family that lived in my own home. This didn’t feel right to me and I knew something needed to change. Instead of missing nothing, it seemed I was missing EVERYTHING.
